The EAA (originally Experimental Aircraft Association) celebrated its 70th anniversary in style at this year's EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2023 fly-in, which saw 677,000 aircraft enthusiasts attend to see their favorite planes in person. This attendance topped the previous year's record of 650,000 attendees.
They got to look at 10,000 aircraft, a fleet that makes the Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh the world's busiest airport every year for this event. It conducted an average of 148 takeoffs or landings per hour when it was open during the event's 11-day run, ending July 30.

Of the 10,000 planes that attended the event, 3,365 were show planes for display. This included a record 1,497 registered in vintage aircraft parking, 1,067 homebuilt aircraft, 380 warbirds, 194 ultralights, 134 seaplanes and amphibians, 52 aerobatic aircraft, and 41 rotorcraft.
“We had record-setting totals of campers, exhibitors, volunteers, and more," noted EAA CEO and Chairman Jack Pelton. "It was also a challenging year at times with weather, logistics, and other factors, which makes me even more proud of the efforts by our volunteers and staff to organize an outstanding event.”
The event raised more than $2 million for the association's mission of growing participation in aviation. Click through the photo gallery for a look at some of the planes in attendance.
