What's the 2024 Outlook for Engineering Jobs?

Want to know the median pay for your job? The Bureau of Labor Stats shows the numbers for each engineering discipline.

At a Glance

  • The jobs outlook for engineers remains strong.
  • The median engineering salary is nearly double the median salary of all jobs.

According to newly released Bureau of Labor Statistics data, overall employment in engineering occupations is projected to grow faster than the average for all occupations from 2024 to 2032. While we already know that, the BLS data reveal the median salary by engineering discipline as well as the outlook for engineering jobs.

About 188,000 openings are projected each year, on average, in these occupations due to employment growth and the need to replace workers who leave the occupations permanently.

The median annual wage for engineers was $91,420 in 2023, which was considerably higher than the median annual wage for all occupations at $48,060.
