A sensorless control platform has been developed for direct-drive permanent magnet synchronous (PMS) motors used in washing machines. The platform, which features an embedded field-oriented control algorithm for high-dynamic torque control, is said to help improve washing cycles, consume less hot water and save up to 70 percent of energy usage. The platform features a mixed-signal controller and companion intelligent power modules as well as algorithms, development software and design tools. Combined in one platform, iMOTION for washers is said to simplify the design of variable-speed motor-control in both horizontal- and vertical-axis washing machines, accelerating time-to-market and reducing overall system cost.
