Fasteners Requiring No Physical Contact to Operate

Intelligent Fastening Technology is a new system that, unlike traditional fasteners, requires no physical contact to operate. Intelligent Fasteners employ several components: software, embedded electronics, integrated sensors, shape-changing materials, and a fastening mechanism. Electronics and sensors are embedded into a fastening mechanism, controlled by software. When the mechanism receives a signal to fasten, an electric current stimulates the shape-changing materials to engage the other side of the fastener.
The supplier was established to market the new fastening technology, and the company says products are now being brought to market in industrial, electronics and other markets. The fasteners are said to offer advantages over standard fastening solutions in applications in which security, reliability, service, predicative maintenance, weight, or cost is an issue.
