Krauss-Maffei worked with an OEM to develop a modular solution for a door foaming line. Krauss-Maffei manufactured a solution to produce the side-by-side and top-mounted doors that includes a customized, redundant RIMStar 40/40 metering system to ensure the accuracy of each shot and a MK 12P-2KV mixing head to deliver the best mix consistently, using HFC-245 as the blowing agent.

To begin the cycle, operators manually load the inner plastic doors and metal outer doors in a mold, which is mounted on a pallet. The pallet moves into the available pre-heating oven via a shuttle, then into the foaming fixture. The chemicals are discharged into the sets of doors loaded in the modular fixture. After curing, the pallet moves into the unloading station, via a shuttle, where the insulated doors are manually removed. The material handling system provides the capability of feeding two lines. The entire system delivers a set of doors every 22 seconds. The metering unit, modular door foaming lines and the material handling system are all controlled by a common Allen-Bradley control system.
