Metabo Corporation introduced a cordless drill/driver, the BSZ 18, with a motor that offers power up to 549 inch-pounds of torque. Applications include construction and industrial work such as drilling, tapping and driving screws.

The company's patented air-cooled battery system is a feature of the drill/driver that helps to increase performance. This system cools both the battery and the charger, which keeps the battery at the optimum charging temperature. This results in 30 percent faster charging and increased service life. An 18-V battery offers 1.4 A hours and an extended service life of up to 2,000 charges.

The 18-V drill features 20 torque settings, including a setting with forward and reverse. The onboard variospeed electronics allow infinite no-load speeds up to 1,450 rpm. The drill/driver features the company’s spindle lock for one-handed bit changing using the 1/2-inch keyless chuck, and an ergonomic, rubber-coated T-handle with a built-in clip that holds two bits. The tool uses a smooth gear change mechanism with 3-level planetary gears to extend tool life. The optimized fan helps keep the motor cool under load.

The tool can drill up to 1/2-inch holes in mild steel and up to 1-3/16-inch holes in soft wood. It weighs 4.85 pounds with the battery. www.metabousa.com
