The company’s Size 11 hybrid external linear actuator features a rotating stainless steel acme lead screw incorporated into the motor’s rotor. Shaft-to-lead screw couplings are reportedly not needed with the design, reportedly saving time, money, and labor during assembly of the final application. The nut on the external linear uses engineering thermoplastics and is said to increase the operation life in high-precision applications. The external linear hybrid actuator is available in a variety of resolutions ranging from 0.000125 to 0.002 in (0.003175 to 0.0508 mm) per step and delivers thrusts up to 25 lbs (11.5 kg). According to the company, a standard Size 11 external linear has a 4-in visible lead screw, but lead screw length, coil termination, and the external nut can be customized for individual customer needs. In the company’s design, the lead screw rotates but does not advance as the motor steps, reportedly obtaining linear travel in confined spaces. The lead screw end can also be machined to allow the use of out-board bearing support for long screw lengths. Typical applications include medical equipment, valve control, and other industries.
