A new wire product, DuraFlex 550s is said to help manufacturers of high-temperature igniters, heating elements, lighting, and appliances extend product life and lower manufacturing costs. With a UL listing for continuous performance at 550°C (1,022°F) and 300 V, the product exceeds the 450°C (842°F) limit for conventional products such as MGT. A newly developed, modified silicone coating is said to virtually eliminate dermatitis and braid fray. The patented manufacturing process, according to the supplier, results in a greater moisture barrier that is more stain resistant than similar wire materials. In addition, the company says that the new performance rating can mean shorter harness designs that won't need to be routed around temperature-sensitive areas in products. Radix Wire Company
