The company's line of fully insulated thermal disconnects for appliance applications are self-extinguishing and V-O rated per UL 94 with an open barrel "F" crimp rather than a rollover, to ensure a high-integrity connection. The thermal disconnects feature a fire-retardant nylon insulator with a high-temperature alloy, which is said to maintain the spring characteristics of brass when subjected to 150°C (302°F) and an "F" crimp connection for high reliability. Designed for application by automated wire processing equipment, they are offered in strip form and produced to UL and NEMA specifications. Available in straight and flag styles to mate with 0.110 x 0.020 in (2.79 x 0.5 mm), 0.187 x 0.020 in (4.75 x 0.5 mm), and 0.250 x 0.032 in (6.35 x 0.81 mm) NEMA male tabs, the thermal disconnects reportedly replace heat shrink tubing in many applications. The disconnects are said to create safer appliance connections. If there is a malfunction, the nylon insulator collapses on itself and safely holds until the appliance completes an automatic shutdown.ETCO, Inc.
