GigaFast Ethernet introduced the HomePlug™ Powerline adapter as a way to provide fast, safe, and inexpensive networking in U.S. homes via existing residential electrical outlets - without additional desktop hardware

The USB Powerline adapter connects directly to the electrical outlet. It offers simple plug-and-play functionality, the company says. The USB HomePlug Adapter supports data speeds up to 14Mbps and does not require additional desktop hardware.

Powered by Cogency's Powerline technology, the USB HomePlug Adapter will allow users to connect multiple network-enabled devices quickly and securely.

Currently available, GigaFast's desktop Powerline USB adapter and Ethernet bridge allow residential users to easily network PCs and entertainment appliances including video, audio, and gaming systems.

All Powerline products are fully compatible with GigaFast's wireless products to extend residential networks beyond the home.

"Powerline is the simplest and most reliable networking solution for home users," said Jay Cheng, president of GigaFast Ethernet. "The new wall mount USB adapter adds another level of efficiency by removing the clutter that normally comes with added peripherals for computers. We are strong supporters of Powerline and plan to continue developing products."

The USB HomePlug Adapter was announced in September 2002 and will be available in stores by the end of the year.
