Cuba is taking delivery of its first shipment of Haier energy-efficient refrigerators, according to National News Agency CUBA. Cuba plans to eventually buy 300,000 Haier refrigerators, which will be sold at subsidized prices to Cuban consumers. The program is part of the national energy initiative called Energy Revolution.

Cuban households were offered a number of energy-efficient appliances at subsidized prices in recent months, including pressure cookers and rice makers, according to the news agency.

The aims of the Energy Revolution program also include synchronized generators put in place to produce sufficient energy to do away with the frequent Cuban power outages.
