Inventec Appliances announced it plans to ship 10 million mobile phones in 2006, including 3 million own-brand GSM models, 4 million own-brand PHS models and 3 million OEM models. However, industry sources expect that the company's shipments could also include 3G phones that are scheduled for launching by the third quarter of 2006.

To date, Inventec has captured more than 10 percent of the China market and became one of the top three PHS handset brands. For 2006, the company is confident that it will achieve its goal of exporting 3 million units for OEM buyers as it maintains its volume of OEM shipments and the demand for PHS phones from Thailand and India continues to grow.

The company shipped 2 million own-brand GSM phones to Taiwan and China in 2005. Michael Chen, vice-president at Inventec Appliances, predicts that the company's handset sales in China will double in 2006, as the China handset market continues to grow. (Global Sources)
