Robert Bosch GmbH (Stuttgart, Germany) launched a new-generation social alarm system at the 2006 Altenpflege+ProPflege trade fair this week. The Social Alarm Unit 3100 offers a range of functions designed to ensure rapid assistance. Wireless detectors offer safety and comfort and function modules for those who are speech- and hearing-impaired.
"Social alarm" systems have been used in Germany for 25 years, designed to give users help at the touch of a button. The systems are designed to give users, such as the elderly or others in need of care, a means of living more independently and often in their own homes, while still being able to rely on help in an emergency.
Included in the new line is the Wireless Smoke Detector, to detect smoke often before flames build up. A loud warning tone sounds on the premises while the Wireless Smoke Detector triggers an alarm and sends it to the social alarm monitoring center. From there, procedures are put into motion to combat the fire.
The Wireless Motion Detector replaces the regular actuation of the daily button on the Social Alarm Unit 3100. If the Wireless Motion Detector does not detect any movement within a set period of time, the system automatically triggers an alarm and sends it to the social alarm monitoring center. The Wireless Motion Detector can also be used as an intrusion alarm system.
The Wireless Contact Detector can be used for connection with up to two external contacts or sensors such as gas or water sensors, pneumatic detectors, floor mats, or door openers. The Wireless Contact Detector is also designed to be helpful in supervising dementia patients.
The new generation of devices supports the installation of function modules for the speech- and hearing-impaired. A flashing light on the Social Alarm Unit 3100 informs hearing-impaired patients when an alarm is set off, when the social alarm monitoring center is speaking or when the user can speak or is being heard. Those with speech impairments can activate a pre-recorded message by pressing an emergency call button, which gives a confirmation to the social alarm monitoring center of the emergency.
All the Wireless Detectors are designed to enhance the functions of the Social Alarm Unit 3100 without requiring major assembly, as cable connection are unnecessary.
