LG Targets TV Sales of $10 Billion by 2010

South Korea's home appliance giant LG Electronics said that it will accomplish U.S. $10 billion in TV sales by 2010 to become the world's largest flat-panel TV maker.

LG Electronics also said it aims to emerge as a market-dominant player in the plasma display panel (PDP) and liquid crystal display (LCD) sectors by this year and 2010, respectively.

"We will increase PDP production capacity and strengthen our flat panel TV business to realize the objective to emerge as the world's No. 1 player," said Yoon Sang-han, vice president of LG's display division.

LG Electronics, which produces air conditioners, flat-panel TVs and various other home appliances, said it will increase its production capacity in major markets such as Mexico, Poland and China, as well as those in North America, Europe and Asia.

Meanwhile, LG Electronics held a launching event in central Seoul for new products, including its upgraded hard-drive-equipped TVs, which will allow users to record programs for up to 92 hours. (The Korea Times)
