The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and the Mobile Enhancement Retailers Association (MERA) announced they are extending cooperation between the two associations and expanding benefits for retail members at each association.
The formalized CEA-MERA partnership will involve cross-promotion and sponsorship of programs and events as well as specific member benefits that will be available to members of both associations. Through the agreement, MERA recognizes the International Consumer Electronics Show for the mobile enhancement retailer.
In addition, CEA and its Mobile Electronics Certified Professional (MECP) program have an exclusive "Installation" sponsorship at MERA KnowledgeFest and recognize it for mobile electronics training and education. MERA will also take advantage of CEA's online retailer training resource, CEknowhow.com, which includes a mobile sales associate module.
The organizations also will continue their partnership on the "Your Ride Your Way" campaign, which supports consumers' ability to use consumer electronics products in the vehicle, while acknowledging that consumers need to have choices when it comes to repairing, replacing and enhancing the electronics systems in their vehicles.
Through the partnership, CEA and MERA will also work together on legislative advocacy programs, such as model legislation on in-car video displays and driver distraction.
"CEA has enjoyed a long history with MERA and is pleased to formalize our strong relationship through membership benefits. Our two associations have many common business interests, strategic goals and public policy objectives," said Kerry Moyer, CEA's senior director, strategic relationships. "CEA and MERA acknowledge the critical role each association plays in the mobile electronics sector of the consumer electronics industry and the importance of each association's member base. MERA's 600-plus members include companies that specialize in designing and installing electronics systems for vehicles. This member base allows CEA to connect with retailers and installers on the frontline with consumers."
