Appliance and consumer electronics retailer Best Buy has expanded its online resources by launching a Kitchen and Laundry Design Center on BestBuy.com. The new tool, located in the Home & Appliances section of BestBuy.com, helps customers design their own kitchens, laundry rooms or wet bars, select products, and make purchases directly from the Web site or from Best Buy stores.

"There's no other shopping experience like this," said Sam Taylor, senior vice president, online stores and marketing at BestBuy.com. "We know shopping for appliances can be a challenge, and this new technology gives customers a fun and easy way to select the appliances they want in the sizes and styles that work for them."

Best Buy said it created the design center based on consumer research which confirmed that people prefer to visualize how appliances will look in their homes before buying them. The Kitchen and Laundry Design Center lets shoppers design rooms to specific dimensions in 2-D and view the rooms in 3-D, making it easier to see what products are needed, and to ensure new appliances meet the size requirements and style of the room.

Customers can build detailed plans for their kitchens, laundry rooms or wet bars, and customize the rooms from the appliance and consumer electronic products at Best Buy (including special-order appliances and flat screen televisions). Shoppers can order many of the products online or print the plans and bring them to a "Blue Shirt" appliance specialist or Personal Shopping Assistant at Best Buy stores for purchase, delivery and installation.
