U.S.-based business appliance maker Acer America Corporation announced it has reaffirmed its position as the leading provider of LCDs in Canada by recapturing the number one position in the Canadian LCD market.

Acer maintained its position it originally earned in the second quarter of 2005 and recorded the highest year-over-year growth of 3,771 percent in the third quarter against the Canadian industry average of 61 percent during the third quarter of 2004, according to research firm Evans Research.

"Display demand continued to grow during the third quarter of 2005 with LCD vendors shipping well over 400,000 units. Acer experienced continued growth to hold onto their first place position with more than 17 percent market share," stated Michelle Warren, IT Industry Analyst, Evans Research Corporation.

This is the fourth consecutive quarter in which Acer recorded industry-leading performance. Acer posted LCD year-over-year shipment growth of 3,928 percent in the second quarter of 2005, 3,531 percent the first quarter of 2005 and 1,347 percent in the fourth quarter of 2003.

During the third quarter, Acer also became the number one provider of notebook PCs in Canada, making it one of only two companies to ever hold the top positions in these two product categories simultaneously. Evans Research reported that Acer has grown their notebook market share to 24 percent in the Canadian market, which equates into the number one vendor position. Acer experienced 312 percent year-over-year growth while the overall market saw 49 percent year-over-year growth.

"Becoming the premier provider of LCDs and notebook PCs during the quarter is a nice achievement for Acer but we are not resting on our accomplishments. We will continue to offer innovative solutions across all product categories that deliver the best value for consumers -- regardless of their budget," said Terry Tomecek, general manager, Acer America Corporation (Canada). "The Q3 notebook and LCD results clearly show that Acer is a driving force and the leading Canadian supplier of IT products."
