LG Electronics Opens New U.S. Mobile Phone Headquarters

LG Electronics MobileComm, U.S.A., Inc. (LG Mobile Phones), announced the opening of its new headquarters in San Diego, California, U.S. The 38,209 square foot facility will provide advanced utilities for research and development, engineering and sales and marketing, and will also house LG Affiliate companies including LG Chem, LG Innotek and FNS.

Since entering the U.S. mobile handset market in 1998, LG Mobile Phones has grown exponentially. LG Mobile Phones maintains the number one rank in CDMA phone sales in the U.S. for the second quarter of 2005. Since the fourth quarter of 2003, LG has shipped more CDMA handsets in the U.S. than any other manufacturer, according to analyst firm IDC. LG sold more than 12 million handsets worldwide in the second quarter of this year, bringing overall market share to 6.3 percent. LG has also has seen impressive growth in the GSM category. Just over 2 years after the launch of its first GSM handset in the U.S., LG again secured the number four spot in the U.S. GSM market in the second quarter of 2005.
