A fire destroyed the TV manufacturing department of Vestel, a leading Russian appliance and consumer electronics maker.

The local fire department tried to extinguish the fire that started in the afternoon at the plant located outside of Moscow with three fire engines.

Due to the insufficiency of the fire squad and delayed help from Moscow, the factory, which was said to be equipped with leading technology, was completely burned down. Company authorities said the fire squad that arrived to extinguish the fire left because there reportedly was no water in the fire engine.

Vestel said no fatalities or injuries were reported out of the 1,000 employees at the TV and white goods factory. The profit loss by the destruction of the building, which had an annual TV production of 1 million units, and included production equipment and machinery, is said to be insured.

Vestel Electronic authorities said the company will carry sales and marketing without any delay. (Zaman Online)
