Dell to Open U.S. Manufacturing Plant

Business appliance maker Dell will officially open its new U.S. manufacturing facility in Salem, North Carolina, U.S.

The North Carolina facility will produce Dell's build-to-order desktop computers for the company's U.S. East Coast business and consumer customers and will support business growth in the U.S. Construction of the new facility began in January 2005.

The new facility will employ about 700 people in its first year of operation and will have 1,500 employees within 5 years.

The 750,000-square-foot facility in the Alliance Science & Technology Park in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, is Dell's largest manufacturing site to date adding to the company's U.S. manufacturing presence in Middle Tennessee and Central Texas.

Dell is reportedly the only leading information technology company manufacturing its own personal computer systems in the U.S.
