A review of the Whirlpool/Maytag merger deal will be handled by the U.S. Justice Department, according to a Justice Department spokesperson quoted in a Reuters report. A dispute between the Justice Department and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission over which agency would look into the proposed merger is apparently settled.

Whirlpool Corporation, based in Benton Harbor, Michigan, U.S., signed an agreement with Newton, Iowa, U.S.-based Maytag to buy Maytag for approximately U.S. $1.7 billion.
