LG Aims to Dominate Malaysian TV Market

LG Electronics Malaysia (LGEM) aims to dominate the Malaysian digital display market share this year.

According to the GfK Market Research Institute, as of May, the company has managed to secure 28-percent market share of plasma TVs, and it is currently leading in that segment with its 42-in PX4RV and 42-in RTPX10 as the top two selling models.

"We expect to emerge number one in that segment this year," said I. G. Kim, LGEM’s managing director.

Last year, a GfK market survey of electrical appliances in Malaysia showed that LG captured 38 percent of the plasma TV market share. Total revenue from digital display products last year stood at RM 38million (approx. U.S. $10million).
"This year, our target sales is U.S. $20 million," said Mr. Kim. Sales in the month of April alone from digital display products stood at RM 11.4 million (approx. $3 million).

Overall, LGEM expects total revenue this year to increase to RM 800 million (approx. $210.5 million), up 60 percent from RM 500 million (approx. $158 million) in 2004. (Malaysia Star)
