The Electrolux Group on June 30 inaugurated its new refrigerator factory in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico.

The new, 1.6-million-sq-ft manufacturing facility is capable of producing more than 1 million refrigerators annually. The plant will produce side-by-side and large top-freezer refrigerators for the North American and Latin American markets.

The facility will benefit the border area, including El Paso and eastern New Mexico. Factory suppliers are looking at locations in the borderland area from which they will service Electrolux. Three firms have already announced their plans to locate in the Santa Teresa, New Mexico area, creating 130 new jobs, Electrolux said. Others are considering local sites in the borderland and in Ciudad Juarez.
