The future of the Indesit Company Melano plant was at the heart of a meeting between company management and trade unions after the Italian appliance maker expressed concerns over the current economic downturn and spoke of the need to look to converting the plant to other lines of products.
The conversion program envisages a change from refrigerator units to ovens by close of year. Management emphasized that the overhaul would not involve job losses. Unions stressed their agreement on matters of long-term employment, but called for a detailed discussion of the company industrial plan. (AGI)
