After an absence of 10 years, Japanese consumer electronics maker Sharp Consumer Electronics was officially launched back into South Africa. Sharp Middle East Africa appointed SCE Distribution as the official distributor of Sharp consumer electronics products in the county. Consumers will have access to the complete range of Sharp products through a selection of independent retailers and major chain stores, fully supported by a national technical and after sales support infrastructure.

Lawrence Clayton will be heading up the local operations as general manager of SCE Distribution. Mr. Clayton held management positions at major corporations, including Radio Spoor, Autopage, and MTN. Sharp, who is positioned in the marketplace just below the current major brands, will embark on an aggressive "Be Sharp" marketing campaign to reestablish the brand as a leading player.

"Our initial focus will be on three key product areas namely visual, audio, and home appliances. Under visual, we will offer a range of LCD color TVs, DigitalView camcorders, DVD players, DVD combis, and VCRs. Audio covers home theatre, DVD mini systems, DVD micro systems, and portable audio. Home appliances include air conditioners, refrigerators, and washing machines," Mr. Clayton said. "Sharp is dedicated to the South African market and promises to provide a quality product at a very competitive price with quality after sales support on a national level. Our products are now available in store." (Moneyweb)
