Camco Inc., manufacturer of GE branded dishwashers in Canada, has announced a voluntary recall of certain GE built-in dishwashers. The recall is limited to approximately 1,300 dishwashers in Canada that were manufactured between July 2004 and October 2004.
"We are diligently contacting consumers with impacted dishwashers to repair the units free of charge," the company said in a statement. "We are committed to doing everything we can to make the repair as easy and hassle-free for consumers as possible."
According to Camco, the recalled dishwashers were manufactured with a design flaw that in rare cases, can short out, overheat, and catch fire if one of the connectors to the control is contaminated with dishwashing detergent solution. In similar models in the U.S., there has been one case of a fire that escaped the dishwasher and caused minor property damage. The company says there have been no similar incidents reported in Canada, however.
The recall includes dishwasher models GSD5911J00BB, GSD5911J00CC, GSD5911J00SB, and GSD5911J00WW with serial numbers starting with MG, RG, SG, and TG.
Consumers were advised to contact Camco's service hotline to arrange for a free service call.
