LG Electronics Inc., the mobile phone maker, overtook Japanese electronics firm NEC Corp. It becomes one of the world's largest maker of third-generation (3G) phones that use Europe's W-CDMA standard during the fourth-quarter of 2004, market researcher Strategy Analytics said.
LG Electronics sold 1.7 million W-CDMA phones during the quarter, accounting for 21.5 percent of global sales, compared with NEC's 1.3 million units, the researcher said. NEC's fourth-quarter market share was 15.4 percent. (Yonhap)
