Maytag Corp. (Newton, IA, U.S.) has opened a new a try-before-you buy Maytag Store in Laguna Hills, CA, U.S.

The new Maytag Store, which opened on January 28, is the second in the Orange County area. The first store, located in Costa Mesa, CA, U.S., debuted just 2 years ago and already is the highest grossing Maytag Store in the U.S., the company said.

The Laguna Hills store features a 5,400-sq-ft showroom that allows consumers to do dishes, a load of laundry, or bake a birthday cake at the store before they decide which appliance to buy.

"The ‘try it before you buy it’ concept with appliances has really been successful," says Tom Gill, Maytag Store owner. "Customers appreciate the friendly, relaxed environment and the chance to see the appliances working."

Mr. Gill, whose background includes custom homebuilding and operating a custom home fixtures showroom as well as consulting with start-up businesses, launched the new store concept in Southern California and has seen the Costa Mesa store sales grow substantially since the store opening 27 months ago.

The Maytag Store isn’t a big-box retailer, the company claims, and sometimes attracts customers seeking a homey shopping environment.

"Its wide isles and bright décor create a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere for shopping," says Maytag Store COO Laura Garrett.

Mr. Gill and Ms. Garrett believe the store’s low-price guarantee, immediate delivery, wide selection of appliances will be a draw for the Laguna Hills store, just as they are in Costa Mesa.
