Samsung India Electronics has expanded its digital camera range in India to 13 models by launching another 6 new models. The new range is being simultaneously launched in the international market.
The new digital cameras are priced between Rs 20,000 (approx. $456) to Rs 40,000 (approx. $912) and are targeted at home PC users. They are available from entry-level 3.2 megapixels to higher end 7.4 megapixels models. Samsung's digital cameras are sourced from the company's production bases located in South Korea, Japan, and China.
The Indian digital camera market is pegged at 1.2 lakh (120,000) units in 2004 is expected to double in 2005. Vivek Prakash, vice president of Samsung India said, "The launch is part of our focus to create an aspirational digital lifestyle for the Indian consumer. This year plan we plan to sell 40,000 digital cameras in the Indian market."
Samsung is also rolling out 600 technology retail counters by March 2005, which will sell Samsung's technology products, including digital cameras. The company is also introducing a digital photography evangelist program to promote digital photography at campuses, clubs, multiplexes, and shopping malls across top Indian cities. (Indiatimes)
