An Electrolux plant in Orange, Australia has been ordered to improve its safety procedures after a worker was seriously injured.
Electrolux says the 60-year-old, whose hand was crushed between metal rollers, was an experienced operator. WorkCover found the accident occurred while another worker was undertaking maintenance.
The organization has given Electrolux a month to introduce written safety procedures for maintenance work, something general manager Scott Ostini says will be done.
"Unfortunately we didn't have a written safe working operation in that case, so we need to make sure that if anyone is performing a maintenance operation that they're adequately trained," he said.
Australian Workers Union state president Mick Madden says despite initial suspicions, he is satisfied the accident was not caused by staff being overworked as a result of recent redundancies. (Australian Broadcasting Corporation Online)
