Sears Canada Inc. has opened a Sears appliance and mattress store in Calgary, Alberta.

The company says it is the first Sears store of its kind to open in Western Canada. Sears opened its first appliance and mattress store in Stoney Creek, Ontario and will open two more in Burlington and Oshawa, Ontario before the end of the year.

With the absence of new shopping mall growth, the retailer says its appliance and mattress store is part of the company's specialty format strategy to bring its key product categories to a growing customer segment preferring to shop in conveniently located power centers on a regular basis. Sears says this investment is built on the solid foundation of its unique assets, including exceptional customer service, broad selection of quality merchandise, and trust and satisfaction guaranteed.

"We are very excited about the opening of this new store, the first store of its kind to open in Western Canada," said Bonnie Boehm, manager of Sears appliances and mattresses. "We are eager to serve the major appliance and mattress needs of the Calgary market. Our highly qualified consultants have been through an extensive product knowledge training program, which has prepared them to successfully address the needs and wants of our customer."

The new 10,000-sq-ft Sears appliance and mattress store offers a range of major appliances, including a stainless steel major appliance gallery, in brands such as Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Frigidaire, Maytag, Jenn Air, DCS, and GE.

Additionally, the store offers a selection of mattresses, including the Sears-exclusive Sears-O-Pedic brand, as well as the Sealy, Simmons, Serta, Kingsdown, and Tempur brands.

In Calgary, Sears has five full-line department stores, three Sears Home stores, two Sears floor covering centers, one outlet store, 31 catalogue agents, and a distribution centre. (Stockwatch)
