Whirlpool Introduces New Appliances in India

Whirlpool has unveiled a new front-loading washing machine in India called Sensation and the Duet range of refrigerators.

Speaking to Indian reporters recently, Arvind Mediratta, vice-president of Marketing, Whirlpool said the front-loading fully automatic washing machine, which has a 6.5-kg capacity, has unique stain-removing features and consumes 20 percent less water than other branded washing machines.

The Sensation can be mounted on its own special pedestal that raises the height of the door, where the homemaker can easily load and unload the laundry. The pedestal can even be used as utility drawer to keep detergent, brush, and other laundry accessories.

The washing machine is priced between Rs 21,000 and Rs 26,500 (approx. U.S. $466 and $588) and comes with a digital control panel.

The Duet range of refrigerators comes with three color combination with a host of features like the "sixth sense" frost control that is said to eliminate massive frost formation. The Duet range is available in 175-, 200-, 230-, and 260-L capacity and is priced between Rs 9,700 and Rs 15,000 (approx. $215 to $333).

Whirlpool has targeted to increase its market share to 25 percent in the Indian home appliance market, Mr. Mediratta said. The company also plans to concentrate more on microwaves and air-conditioners to become one among the first three companies in the home appliances market, he said. (News Today-India)
