In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Aloha Housewares, Inc. (Arlington, TX, U.S.) announced the recall of its Aloha radiant heaters.
According to the CPSC, a recessed thermal protector may cause a fire hazard if the heater is left on while covered by a blanket or similar item. Although no injuries have been reported, consumers are advised to stop using the heaters immediately. The gray electric radiant heaters are Model 02931 with a date code of 02/07 with the name Airtech printed on the unit. The model and date code are printed on a silver UL label on the bottom of the heater.
Manufactured in China, an estimated 30,000 units were sold at Wal-Mart stores throughout the U.S. from mid-September 2002 through April 2003 for approximately $16.
