HVAC producer Carrier Corporation, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation, announced a new range of air-cooled chillers.

The company announced it has taken its AquaSnap chiller, originally launched in 1999, into the largest segment of the air-cooled chiller market, 240 to 1,400 kW (70 to 400 tons). Carrier says the larger range will allow the company to offer the product to a greater number of potential customers.

According to the company, the AquaSnap design features a "hydronic kit," which includes a chilled water pump and associated piping and controls, as part of the chiller package. The unit also uses Puron(R), a zero ozone-depleting refrigerant that reportedly transfers heat more effectively than any other commonly used refrigerant.

In addition, Carrier says the new AquaSnap and is one of the quietest chillers in its category as its patented low-noise fans offer enhanced acoustics performance. In addition, the AquaSnap reportedly achieves higher efficiencies as its design optimizes the interface between the compressor and the other chiller components and can consume more than 50 percent of a building's energy.

The chiller will be manufactured at four Carrier factories located in the U.S., France, China, and Brazil.
