The Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI) announced yesterday that the Board of Standards Review for the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has approved and recognized ARI Standard 390-2001, "Single Package Vertical Air-Conditioners and Heat Pumps," as an American National Standard. According to ARI, the standard applies to factory-made commercial and industrial single-package vertical air-conditioners and heat pumps.

Michele Darbeau, standards engineer, ARI, said that the addition of the ANSI approval logo and the American National Standard designation to ARI Standard 390-2001 ensures a balanced, consensus standards development process that benefits ARI members and is in the public interest.

According to ARI, its standards help to set rating criteria and procedures for measuring and certifying product performance. This is meant to aid the consumer in selecting the proper product for their application.
