Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. and Hitachi Ltd. are considering jointly manufacturing large liquid-crystal display (LDC) panels for flat-screen televisions, officials of the two companies said.
With an investment of between 100 billion yen and 200 billion yen (approx. U.S. $905 million to $1.8 billion), the two companies are studying building a new LCD facility at the site of Hitachi Displays Ltd.'s factory in Mobara, Chiba Prefecture, the officials said.
Hitachi and Matsushita already have a technological tie-up in developing next-generation consumer electronics, but this would be their first manufacturing partnership. (The Japan Times)
