In voluntary cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Vornado Air Circulation Systems Inc. of Andover, KS, U.S. has recalled 1 million units of the company's portable electric whole room heaters.

After receiving reports of heater fires, although no injuries were reported, consumers were advised to stop using the recalled heaters immediately. A faulty electrical connection is said to cause the heater to overheat and stop working, posing a fire threat.

The recalled portable electric whole room heaters, designed for indoor use, have model numbers 180VH(R), VH(R), Intellitemp(R), EVH(R), and DVH(R). The model numbers are located on the bottom of each unit. Each heater has the "Vornado" name and symbol on the front.

The recalled units were manufacturing and sold at retailers and distributors throughout the U.S. and also through the company's web site from July 1991 through January 2004 for between U.S. $50 and $120.
