Some laid-off Maytag workers are going back to work. The Newton, IA, U.S.-based appliance maker is recalling up to 120 production workers in Newton, citing increased demand for laundry products made in the company's hometown.
Maytag spokeswoman Lynne Dragomier wouldn't disclose the number of workers being recalled, but says they went back to work earlier this week. She says it was a "routine production schedule increase."
Maytag has laid off about 700 workers since 2002, citing lower demand and a need to cut costs. About 1,500 union members returned to their jobs at Maytag earlier this month after a 3-week strike over a new contract. (Associated Press)
