AHAM Honors Industry Leaders, Appoints Board Members at Annual Meeting

The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) honored several industry executives with awards for service and leadership at the AHAM Annual Member Meeting, held April 25-27, in Key Largo, FL, U.S. The association also elected its 2004 officers and members of the Board of Directors at the annual meeting, which was attended by APPLIANCE.
The industry’s top honor bestowed on members, the Home Appliance Industry Leadership or HAIL Award, was presented to Jerry G. Ryder, president, In-Sink-Erator, Emerson Electric Co. A second HAIL Award was presented to John N. Balough, a retired engineer with The Hoover Company.
The 2004 Chairman’s Award, which recognizes significant contributions to AHAM by non-member individuals, was presented to William C. Brashares, who served as AHAM General Counsel from 1983 through 2003. He is a partner with Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo PC in their Washington, D.C., U.S. office.
The AHAM Distinguished Service Awards serve as a special recognition of significant contributions to AHAM and the home appliance industry. This year’s Distinguished Service Award recipients are Jeff Haworth, formerly of Maytag Appliances; Matt Carley, senior compliance engineer, Hamilton Beach/Proctor-Silex, Inc.; Ernst Grunewald, staff engineer, Whirlpool Corporation; and Douglas Ringger, director, R&D Services & Marketing Support, Maytag Appliances.
AHAM's newly elected officers for 2004 are Board Chair Liston P. Durden, senior vice president of Marketing, Viking Range Corporation; First Vice Chair Barbara F. Garrett, senior vice president, Applica Inc.; Second Vice Chair Christopher Wignall, vice president of Marketing, Maytag Appliances; and Treasurer Jerry G. Ryder, president, In-Sink-Erator, Emerson Electric Co.
Mark J. Bissell, president and CEO, BISSELL Homecare, Inc. is a newly elected member of the AHAM Board of Directors with his term expiring in 2005. Also, Robert P. Scaglione, vice president of Marketing, Sharp Electronics Corporation and Franz J. Bosshard, president and CEO of BSH Home Appliances Corporation, N.A. are newly elected members of the AHAM Board of Directors with terms expiring in 2006.
Thomas A. Briatico, president and CEO of The Hoover Company is also a newly elected member of the Board with a term expiring in 2007.
Re-elected members of the AHAM Board include Major Appliance Division Chairman Christopher Wignall, vice president of Marketing, Maytag Appliances; Dr. Michael J. Morecroft, president and CEO, Hamilton Beach/Proctor-Silex; Liston P. Durden, senior vice president of Marketing, Viking Range Corporation; Alan M. Holaday, vice president, NAR Manufacturing, Whirlpool Corporation; Donald Hoeschen, vice president of Sales, National Presto Industries, Inc. All re-elected members’ terms expire in 2007. Directors are elected by the membership.
Other members of the Board with terms expiring in 2005 are Barbara F. Garrett, senior vice president, Applica Inc.; Robert L. Cushman, manager, Product Development, Electrolux Home Products; Gordon L. Stauffer, CEO and president, Northland Corp.; Supplier Division Chairman Robert M. Brown, vice president of Sales and Marketing, Cooking Platform, Emerson Appliance Solutions.
Members of the Board with terms expiring in 2006 include Earl F. Jones, Senior Counsel, GE Consumer and Industrial; Jerry G. Ryder, president, In-Sink-Erator, Emerson Electric Co.; and Portable Appliance Division Chairman Edward V. McAssey, III, COO, Lasko Products, Inc. Joseph M. McGuire, AHAM President, also serves on the AHAM Board of Directors.
