BSH Home Appliances Corp. will officially dedicate two new-build additions to its North American manufacturing capabilities. Known by its Bosch, Thermador, Siemens and Gaggenau brands, BSH has just completed a U.S. $200 million, 400,000-sq-ft expansion at its New Bern, NC, U.S. facility, where it has been manufacturing dishwashers and some cooking appliances.
With the addition of two new factories, the New Bern plant now manufactures its first line of freestanding ranges plus an all-new line of washers and dryers. BSH's growth at New Bern has meant the addition of at least 300 jobs during the past year for a current total of 750 employees. The expansion is expected to add 1,000 jobs in total.
"In North Carolina, we have found a plentiful supply of talented, hard-working employees who take pride in working with quality products in a highly sophisticated manufacturing facility," said Franz Bosshard, president and CEO, BSH Home Appliances Corp.
"We intend to become a dominant player in the North American appliance market," he added. "We are starting with a strong marketing organization that includes national accounts, distributors, and dealers, knowledgeable in our superior products; and we plan to strengthen those positions further."
Dr. Clemens Schaller, executive vice president and chief technology officer, is in charge of all BSH Home Appliances manufacturing operations and manages the plant. He is also responsible for the company's environmental protection and occupational safety programs throughout North America.
While launching the new state-of-the-art New Bern factories, BSH Home Appliances has introduced five new business lines in the past six months. These include Bosch freestanding electric and gas ranges, Bosch washers and dryers, Thermador refrigerators, and Siemens dishwashers.
"The U.S. is, and always will be, a land of great opportunity. Nowhere else in the world does a single contiguous market of such large proportions offer so much potential for growth," stated Dr. Kurt-Ludwig Gutberlet, president and chief executive of BSH Bosch und Siemens Hausgerate GmbH.
While some companies are relocating manufacturing to lower wage regions of the world, "we are proud of our policy to manufacture products where our markets are -- close to our customers," he added. "In this way, we can integrate ourselves into the local economy and create employment and opportunity, not only for BSH but for others as well, wherever we build new business."
BSH Home Appliances Corp. is a wholly owned subsidiary of BSH Bosch and Siemens Hausgerate GmbH, with headquarters in Munich, Germany. In addition to the New Bern manufacturing site, BSH Home Appliances has a plant in LaFollette, TN, U.S. which manufactures part of the Thermador product line, and one in Vernon, CA, U.S. which is transferring production to New Bern later this year.
