Snow thrower manufacturer Ariens Co. (Brillion, WI, U.S.) and The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall of 571 snow thrower models.

The recalled units are referred to as Ariens 13-Horsepower Sno-Throw(TM), model 924506.

Consumers were advised to stop using the recalled products immediately, as the snow thrower blade may not stop when the blade brake control is applied, resulting in continued blade movement. The potential for injury exists if consumers make contact with the rotary blade, although Ariens Co. has not received any reports of injuries.

Manufactured in the U.S., the snow throwers were sold at Home Depot stores in U.S. and Canada from Oct. 7, 2003 to Oct. 24, 2003 for between U.S. $2,500 and $2,800. Some units were sold elsewhere but Ariens said it has already notified those consumers.
