LG Electronics Inc. has unveiled its new "Combi Recorder," which incorporates a DVD player and a VCR into a single unit.

The next-generation product is the first of its kind in the domestic market, LG officials said. Unlike conventional DVD-VCR combinations, LG's new recorder allows users to store images and sounds interactively and conveniently using the two different types of devices. Users of the Combi device can save data, pictures, and sounds from analog videotapes and camcorders onto digital discs, the officials said.

The product also features a thumbnail function that helps users manage and search recorded images and is fully compatible with various image file formats, such as DVD, VCD, Audio CD, and JPEG, according to the officials. Each digital disc is said to be able to record for up to 4 hr.

At 800,000 won (approx. U.S. $679), the product more affordable than conventional DVD-VCR combinations, LG said. (Yonhap)
