Heatcraft Refrigeration Products (HRP) LLC announced it has been awarded an honorable mention in the 2004 International Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration (AHR) Expo Innovation Award Competition.

Selected by a panel of seven judges, the company's Beacon(R) II Smart Defrost was submitted in the "Refrigeration" category.

The Beacon II Smart Defrost features an option that initiates defrost modes only when needed, reducing defrost cycles up to 75 percent. According to Heatcraft, standard defrost systems have approximately four defrosts per day while the Smart Defrost system may only need to defrost once or twice a day. Said to predict frost accumulation and defrosts on an as-needed basis, the Smart Defrost and Smart Controller is, according to the company, the first system in the industry capable of predicting frost accumulation and initiating defrost as necessary.

The Beacon II Smart Defrost will be displayed at the HRP booth at this year's AHR Expo.
