Global television major Toshiba is planning to set up a manufacturing facility in India in the next 18 months, but the location and other details are yet to be finalized, a top official of the company announced.
Presently, the components, chassis, and designs were being imported from Japan and assembled in India, country manager Rajesh Gupta said.
Naoji Sakuma, manager of international sales, said the company sold 6 million color TV sets globally last year, registering a turnover of U.S. $3 billion to $4 billion in the color TV segment. "This year, we expect a 20-percent growth globally," he said.
The company will also reportedly introduce new models in India, where it started operations 2 years ago.
Mr. Gupta said the company was planning to open 25 exclusive premier showrooms in India before the middle of next year, including seven more in the south. The locations include Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Pune, Ahmedabad, Surat, Bangalore, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Hyderabad, and Chennai. (PTI, Asia Pulse)
