Universal Security Instruments, Inc. (Owings Mills, MD, U.S.) announced it has received UL approval for its combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm. Designed for both electrical and retail distribution channels, the UL listing approves market availability, with shipping to begin in early 2004.

The USI-7795 and CD-9794 alarm models feature 120-V configuration, battery backup, automatic reset button, flashing indicator, audible low battery indicator, smart interconnect for up to 18 units, and a 5-year limited warranty.

"The electrical distribution market has indicated a strong desire for a combination unit from Universal Security. We believe this new combination alarm represents a very important and valuable addition to our increasingly comprehensive product offering," said Steve Knepper, chairman of the board and CEO of Universal Security. "We expect the combination unit to play an important role in Universal's continued market share expansion in our U.S. $450-million industry."
