A record number of industry professionals attended the 2003 International Pool & Spa Expo, held November 5-7 in New Orleans, LA, U.S., show organizers reported.
With 234,000 net sq ft of exhibit space, an increase of 22 percent over last year, the 2003 Expo had record-breaking growth with 622 exhibiting companies and 2,340 booths in the sold-out exhibit hall. Total attendance hit 13,156, marking a 17-percent increase over the final results from the 2002 show.
Attendees came from all segments of the pool, spa, hot tub, and backyard living industry, including residential and commercial builders, retailers, manufacturers, distributors, installers, subcontractors, and service technicians.
"We're very pleased with the continuing success of the International Pool & Spa Expo We strive to provide high-quality exhibitors, representing a majority of the backyard living industry, along with valuable education to attract high-level buyers from around the world," said Rick McConnell, senior show director. "We have established an excellent foundation for success. At a time when most shows are declining, the 2003 Expo grew by 430 booths."
The sold-out exhibit hall featured new products and innovative ideas in pools, spas, hot tubs, water features, casual furniture, pumps and heaters, lighting, and accessories.
A popular area on the show floor was "The Ultimate Backyard," designed by the First Annual Design Competition winner, James A. Burba, CBP, of Rosebrook Carefree Pools, Inc. (Highland Park, IL, U.S.). The area included products as they would be seen around an ideal backyard, including a spa/hot tub from Dimension One; casual furniture from Carter Grandle; a pool from Clayton & Lambert; decking from L.M. Scofield and Color Wheel Paint & Coatings; fencing from Delgard Premier Aluminum; an outdoor cooking island from Signature Marketing Group/BKE Supply; a gazebo from Gazebo Works Too; and a rock slide and bench by Inter-Fab.
In addition, the Expo's education conference offered attendees 58 education and training opportunities, including concurrent seminars, half-day seminars, a tour of pools and water features, and a track devoted to the commercial segment of the industry. Seminar attendees grew by more than 17 percent and totaled an 5,917 participants.
The show's opening day featured a sold-out Keynote Address by Frank Abagnale, subject of the blockbuster movie, "Catch Me if You Can," directed by Steven Spielberg.
The 2004 International Pool & Spa Expo will be held Dec. 1-3, 2004 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV, U.S. The educational conference will begin Nov. 30 and will feature 55 seminars.
