LG Electronics Inc. said it will move its digital display media center to Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province, Korea from Pyongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, Korea around mid-December.

"Since production in Pyongtaek has been stabilized, we now want to focus on digital TVs, the cash cow of the industry, through this move," said an official from South Korean the appliance maker.

LG will relocate its 50-60 main employees working at Pyongtaek to the new center.

The Gumi factory produces PDP. LCD modules, TV sets, and LCD.CRT monitors, while the Pyongtaek facility produces CD-ROM/RW drives, DVD players, and home theaters.

Pyongtaek-produced products accounted for 55 percent of the firm's total sales in 2002, but those from Gumi will account for a greater portion this year. (Yonhap, Asia Pulse)
