South Korean appliance maker LG Electronics Inc. announced that it has started supplying GSM phone sets to the major communications company Cingular Wireless, a joint venture between SBC Communications Inc. and BellSouth Corp.

Financial terms of the agreement weren't disclosed.

According to the companies, Cingular is the first carrier in the U.S. to offer LG's new line of handsets for the Global System for Mobile communications (GSM). LG Electronics and Cingular are also introducing LG's first two GSM handsets, the G4010 and G4050.

The new GSM-based phones are available with such features as color screens, voice-activated dialing, Caller ID, and text messaging.

The new handsets are available at most Cingular Wireless retail stores and authorized dealers in select markets throughout the U.S.
