Shoppers’ buying plans for major appliances rose slightly in October, in keeping with a rise in the Consumer Confidence Index. The Conference Board reported that 26.9 percent of consumers plan to buy a wide variety of major appliances within the coming 6 months, up from 26.6 percent in September. However, the percentage is lower than it was in October 2002.

Home buying plans have remained the same, at 3.1 percent, on both a monthly and yearly basis.
