Sony Corp. and Samsung Electronics Co. of South Korea have reached a basic agreement on establishing a joint venture to produce seventh-generation liquid crystal display (LCD) panels, a business daily said.
The Nihon Keizai Shimbun said the 50/50 joint venture will be set up in Asan, central South Korea, with a capital of 200 billion yen (U.S. $1.82 billion). The venture will begin producing LCD panels as early as next year, with both Sony and Samsung receiving half the output. (Kyodo News)
